03/27/2007 | Posted by rimfire | Category General 3 comments | Permalink | What you doing, rimfire?![]() And it brought to mind a old post on redneckin Soy burgers, anyone? Brag came by the other evening to feed the dogs just as I was finishing up using the grill. He remarked that I had been doing a lot of grilling lately. And I have. Over the last few weeks, a varied mix of fish, fowl and mammals have found their way onto my charcoal grill. Only reptiles and amphibians are missing from the list. A temporary oversight, I’m sure. I know some of you people say you’re going to fire up the grill when you actually mean you’re going out, turning on the gas and pushing the electronic ignition button Then you set around waiting for the fake rocks to heat up while your fake meat marinates in fake smoke. Soy burgers, anyone? [ Read More... ]

03/16/2007 | Posted by rimfire | Category General No comments | Permalink | I’ve been conversingAnyway, when he mentioned fishing it reminded me of a trip 2 and I took with Capt Brownie a few years ago 2 and I left early Wednesday morning for Apalachicola to do a little maintenance on the “2+3”, our 19 foot center console. She is an old Drumond, a heavy boat that plows through the chop with a sure and steady ride. We replaced the old Mercury 2 stroke with a Yamaha 115 four stroke. It sure is nice to turn the switch and expect the motor to start. The Yamaha is so quite that I have turned the key on an already running motor. Leaving Phenix City about 6:30, 2 and I took time in Dothan to buy a tube of chalking to seal in the two tackle ports(?) I removed last trip. I had some vague theory about “fixing them up” over the holidays when I removed them. We won’t go into to how much “fixing them up” I did. Things went so well that I started to get nervous. It’s usually when I’m on a roll that the rimfire luck kicks in. Rule #1 If there are four bolts that need to be removed, then one will be stripped. Rule #2 A minimum of one nut on said bolts will be rounded off. The offending nut will always be on the bolt that is not stripped Rule #3 If none of the above apply, then a special tool will be needed to reach the offending part and will have to be special ordered before you can strip a bolt and round off a nut. Rule #4 On arriving at the work site, it will be discovered that all instruction books and wiring diagrams will have been left on the counter where the parts were purchased and or some other inaccessible place. GF has a list that's so long that if I get through with it before next October, I'll be lucky. Of course, I could do the same thing I did with last years list which was roll it over into this years. This has been my project for the last couple of days. ![]() Now I need to do a makeover on the water garden I put in for GF while we were still on a permanent date. I plan to make Brag chunk me a lot of clays on the summer exercises this year. The weatherYes, I know I usually don’t start wearing them till around Easter. 03/06/2007 | Posted by rimfire | Category General 2 comments | Permalink | Cuz just called![]() Judy was Cuz's pride and joy, by way of Uncle NoPass Ain't never run no deer. Why everybody says so. If Judy was running, it was a pretty safe bet it was a rabbit. The only time that I know that she ran something other than a rabbit was a bobcat on our first hunt with djmed. She didn't hunt much late in the year. Usually the first at the gate and last to return to the box, the last couple of times she stayed in her house while the others were being loaded up. We all knew that she was fading fast, but still.... ![]() She was a good one. I'll never forget that when we first saw him unfolding himself from his full sized truck that the first words out of my mouth were "Did any of you boy's tick somebody's husband off?" Not fat, he's just a big man. And like most big men, he's a easygoing individual. Do I need to tell you which one is djmed? ![]() The newest member just turned up this year....Plunker. He hunted hard with us this year, turned us on to some land, doesn't take offense at my writing and fed us rather well on our tailgate lunches. The last three being the most important.

03/03/2007 | Posted by rimfire | Category Rabbit Hunts 06-07 No comments | Permalink | Good MorningThere will be a couple of posts that relate to the previous Journal, but will be filed under the Rabbit Hunts 06-07 catagory. I'll be tinkering with the site over the down time that will last for about two months as the turkey hunters take over the woods. The skin is changed by default on all the previous posts. Any suggestions, "Hey man, that sucks" or other advice is appreciated. I plan a roundup of the dogs, guns and some other posts to give you something to hang your hat on till the pre-season starts the first Saturday after the turkey season. 03/01/2007 | Posted by rimfire | Category General 3 comments | Permalink | |
