Dixie And Maizie

are back in the pen, probably telling all kind of lies to Lucy and Julie. Well, we know who gets to wear the best dog collars next trip don't we?
Lucy and Maizie.

Julie got the treatment last trip as did Lucy, but I want to fortify the experience with Lucy. Julie isn't to bad about deer though she will if you let up on her.

I've had to explain to Brag the rules of ownership...again. You'd think that after three years of joint ownership, he'd know
They are his dogs when they run trash, mine when they run rabbits and ours when it comes to the vet bills.

Another thing is these rabbit dogs of Brag have absolutely no sense of direction.
We turned them out in Pittsview near where they're four laneing the road to Panama City. Collarless, Maizie, who hates long runs, and Dixie, who knows what the best dog collar is for, turned up near Hatchachubbee. They took off on the second race, the first being a coyote, Thursday morning and I picked them up at halftime of the Auburn game today. I don't know whether to tell Brag or let him read it since he was gone on a business trip.

At djmeds near Auburn, we found Dixie after a few days, hanging out at the Trent Jones golf course clubhouse. At least she's got taste.
We turned them out one time at Green Fields in Pittsview and found Julie near Seale.
We run them regular at Seale and they repeatedly turned up at the church on 39. They would be setting on the top steps, probably trying to get in to pray I wasn't going to kick their collective butts for running trash.

I’m a procrastinator.

That’s what I’m doing right now, as a matter of fact, procrastinating .

I have a project going that I really need to finish this week. Or by Monday, at worst. I started it a year ago and it’s in the state it was last May, ¾ finished.

And to make matters worse, I’ve scheduled in two more rabbit hunts and at least one bow/deer hunt this week

I’ve been a procrastinator pretty much my whole life. From picking up my toys to doing school work to whatever’s, I put it off till the last possible moment.

The rabbit hunt went well today. I met Cuz and Rye at the gate of the Gray’s place. It’s a beautiful piece of property. The front yard is managed for birds, specifically quail, but he lets us chase his rabbits in the back.
Unloading the rabbit dogs

It was that time of the month

Julie< Maizie, Dixie and Lucy got their heartworm pills on Friday the 14

Hi Tiny, it’s Rimfire.

Couple of quick notes
And a question from Brag.

Lucy got sick again (3), spaced out 4-6 weeks. Vet did blood work this time. Gave her a shot and she was good to go by the next morning.
Strange.

Lucy really did good today though she stayed around me for the first three races. I ran the dogs by myself. Had five really good races. Bucks that ran a long way but I saw all five. Don’t you love a day where everything goes right? lol. Now if it would happen with witnesses and a pocketful of shells.

Shot one to let Lucy get a smell. She approved.

She led Dixie to the next to last rabbit. We were back on that last firebreak where I tilled around the pine, walking up the break toward the pathfinder when Lucy’s head snapped down. She took off barking, running, nose parallel to the ground, down the firebreak before she hooked left. Dixie ran up to see what was going on and as quick as Dixie got there she started barking. Lucy ran with the pack the whole length of that bottom and halfway back again, puppy bark just agoing, before she saw me and came running to see what I was doing.

They jumped again on the way out. I was going to just stay the morning but it was almost 3:30 before I got to the vets office to find out that the results weren't back.

Brag was wanting to know if he could run the front on Saturday? We know it’s opening day for bow season in Alabama. I’m going to be on a stand back near my tent or that last bottom till 10-10:30, depending on the deer and my shooting.
I couldn’t think of anybody that bow hunts up front. Anyway, give me a holler and let me know.

Rimfire

Lucy has been sick again.

The third time, now.
Sick,
four weeks later: sick,
six weeks later:sick.
Same symptoms started last Friday: Third eyelid a blue gray color. Eyes very weak. Lethargic. Off her feed. Slight temperature. Tail hanging down

On Saturday:
I went down to the pen after I put some redfish on the grill near dark. Lucy looked a lot better after her trip to the vet, Dr. Caldwell on Sportsman Drive in Phenix City, Alabama. Tail was up and wagging. Eyes were clearer, more normal though still with a tint of the grey blue. The vet gave her a shot and put her on amoxicillin. The same as last time, though this time he did a blood workup.

We had taken Lucy with us on the exercise that morning so we could keep an eye on her.

She stayed at my feet, but I didn’t walk far either. Dixie, Maizie and Julie ran two rabbits in a small patch of really thick planted pines. Neither rabbit wanted to come out and play. They preferred to stay home, running in small overlapping circles crisscrossing their scent trail. We had wanted to shoot it so Lucy could see what it was all about, but neither Brag nor myself got a shot. Besides the one I saw run in front of the Pathfinder, all I got was a glimpse of the dark shape of a running rabbit in the pines.

Lucy did try to run. While listening to the dogs, Lucy found a scent trail that got her excited. Her puppy voice rang with excitement for a few minutes before she came back to lay at my feet. This time, she was shivering. I loaded her in the box and went to get Brag and the dogs. Brag came fairly willingly but Julie, Dixie and Maizie was having to much fun on a cool damp morning. I hated to break them off, but I did it while promising them that I would take them again before bow season for deer started this Saturday.

Interesting morning

Two and a half good races
And one I'm not to sure about.
I'll try to post the details tomorrow or Monday
