The Rabbit Journal Tales

This is the archive for November 2005

Yeah, I know

but we have to let the deer hunters have a little fun for a week or two.
I've been keeping up with that over at redneckin

And we're working on making converts. The Florida boys in our club brought their shotguns with them and are asking for a hunt.

Looks like a

crash and burn over at redneckin.

Cuz told me

that Sheriff Boswell told him he recognized Cuz but none of the other fellows in those rabbit hunting pictures. Cuz asked me, "Who do you think would be posting our pictures on the internet?". Me, I was wondering what the sheriff was poking around on my site for. Course he could be a rabbit hunter but I kinda doubt it.
Cuz, to be kind about it, is technologically challenged. About the only electronic equipment he is familiar with is the tv remote. That and the one armed bandits in Mississippi.
The fact that the Sheriff didn't recognize none of the rest is a relief to us and, personally, a record that I would like to keep intact.
Anyway, speaking of pictures,

Hey, Tiny

Had some trouble sending email and didn't realize it till today, so I got a backlog. I have a cell phone now and when I'm home it transfers the call to my house phone. GF bugged me till I finally got one..... Something about no one finding me till the coyotes had a meal or two. I didn't bother to tell her that it probably wouldn't matter much to me by that point. I keep telling myself it's a safety device and not a leash.

I saw the box when I got back on Thursday from rabbit hunting with Frank and Reubin.
It fits great in the pathfinder though a tad smaller than the other one. I might take out one divider to see if it gives the dogs anymore room.

On Saturday morning, I sat my deerstand behind my tent till ten and didn't see squat. I'm planning to hunt the stand at the next break to the right past my tent on opening day. I saw the tripod? when Frank, Reubin and I were there last Thursday. Looks fine to me.
I heard Brad turn them out and they ran hard.
Straight away for a ways before breaking off. Brad say's he's pretty sure it wasn't a rabbit. After they came back, I could hear them running in the thick pines in the front for two nice races. Brag couldn't seem to get in position for a shot.
After I met Brag, we couldn't buy a race. We walked a long leg from the pond to the second creek back before crossing the main logging road and walking a long loop behind the cabins. Not a thing, but the dogs didn't seem to be looking that hard either

Lady, Cuz’s dog by way of Uncle NoPass, likes to chase deer. She just don’t like to chase them alone.
Dixie who knows when she has the “collar” on behaved and Julie, who got corrected the last trip, came running over to me……to make sure I Knew where they were.

“Nope, we ain’t running no trash, not us, nope, no way, boss man“, was their attitude though I think I heard Dixie thinking “at least not till I ain’t wearing this “collar“”

I see

that people are looking for rabbit hunting boots on redneckin

The recurve is in the closet

and the 16ga Fox is oiled and ready.

Looks like it's rabbits at Seale tomorrow, but Cuz has already begged off the last two days. I'll believe it when I see his truck coming up the logging road.
I saw a rabbit this morning sitting the logging road only fifty yards off Howard Road in the thick, thick planted pines. Getting a race going there is not a problem, getting a shot is.
I saw another where you ford the second creek going into the back where I camp.

I'd like to hunt past my campsite near my last deerstand on BJ's line. It hasn't been run since Brag and I did on some pre-season races there last summer.
