This is the archive for December 2005

Last rabbit hunt of 05

And I don't have a clue where except we're to meet at 7:30 at Cuz's and it's someplace new

G.F. is sick

but she insists that I rabbit hunt with the East Alabama Rabbit Hunters and Souse Eaters Social Club tomorrow. Something about me being more Typhoid Mary than Florence Nightingale.

I'm just doing some house chores

while waiting to see if Cuz, Rye and Brag want to chance the weather. Today's prediction is 60% rain with thunderstorms. Cuz didn’t sound to enthused last night when we were talking about a hunt. He wants to save WestWind for a nice day.. The upshot of that conversation was we’d procrastinate by putting off the decision till this morning. Which, by the way, is a nice dry calm morning.

Cuz, Rye

Brag and myself are hunting rabbits in Seale this morning. A lot of deer stand sitters are off this week, so our choices are limited

Merry Christmas

my friends

The Hounds

The Rabbit Journal Pack
is joint owned by Brag and me, Rimfire.
Along with Cuz and Rye, we four make up
Julie and Maizie
the human core of the East Alabama Rabbit Hunters and Souse Eaters Social Club.

The rules of ownership for the Rabbit Journal pack are really simple-- They are my dogs when they are behaving and doing good. They are Brag’s dogs when they run trash or are noisy in the pen. The Pack is currently at five dogs. We might add one in a year or so. But for now, it’s

It looks as though

djmed may grace our presence on tomorrow's hunt

Update
djmed must have read "The Kid" because he showed up at a rabbit hunt without a game bag. In the picture, he is loading his buck rabbit into Brag's vest. Well, at least he left the steel loads at home this time.

Down the hill, up the hill

Repeat
Repeat
Repeat and didn’t need to

Friday, the four main members of the East Alabama Rabbit Hunters & Souse Eaters Social Club, ended up

We'll be in the woods this morning

That's "we'll", in the form of the dogs and their supporting cast, the hunters.

We're just not sure where we'll be. The destination will be decided when we get to Cuz's house

Lucy got her

rabies shot today and I picked up another two month supply of prenisolone 5mg. She hasn't been sick since she has been on it and Brag and I don't want to see if she has outgrown whatever is wrong with her till after the close of the seaso, 1 March 2005. Er, I mean 06

By the way, Brag, you owe nine dollars and 14 and a half cents for the vet visit

Cast of Characters for The Rabbit Journal’s, “East Alabama Rabbit Hunters & Souse Eaters Social Club“.

Dang, that’s a mouthful.
And, yes, we are. Characters, that is

You may call me Rimfire.
The dogs, mostly, call me boss or bossman, at least when I can hear them. No telling what they say behind my back. I’m in my mid fifties and am considered to be one of the most arrogant egotistical self-centered s.o.b.'s, most of my ex-wives have ever met. Leastways, according to them. I tend to favor wide brimed hats like panamas and pinch front fedoras along with a 16ga 29 Fox side by side that I like to shoot at rabbits.

Next would be

Oh, and

today, all five dogs, Maizie, Julie, Dixie, Lucy and Kate, got their heartworm pills

The four hunters

spread in a picket line across the hardwood/pine hillside with the nine short legged beagles checking out each potential rabbit hiding spot when the shot rang out.
The dogs hurried over to help, only to find their services weren’t needed. Cuz had snapshot on the jump, tumbling the bunny onto the forest floor. He looked a little sheepish as he explained that instincts had taken over as the reason for depriving the dogs of their first chase in a month.

No harm done. Oh and The Rabbit Journal Picture Show 05-06 is up and running Cuz and Brag

Good Morning

While I occasionally glance out the blinds for Brag to pull into the yard.

We're hunting WestWind today. A bird hunters property, he has sections that are thick and tangled although it is maturing and has only a year or so left for prime rabbit running.

Cuz and Rye, along with Cuz's prime dog Judy and a fifth tier of supporting cast, Lady, Lacey, the latest of Cuz's acquisitions , and Precious (jeeze).

With Me and Brag and our pack, Maizie, Julie, Dixie, our puppy Lucy (I think she has some wiener dog in her) and Kate. More about Kate later. That gives us four hunter and nine short legged beagles. There are some deficiences in the pack, especially among the new dogs and it has me worried some.

And as the headlights turn in, "More later about the hunt"

In conversations

with the deer hunters in our camp, they talk about the rabbits they're seeing........but always at somebody else's deer stand.
