The Rabbit Journal Tales

Why haven't I been keeping

you entertained? Or at least rabbit hunting?

Well, as some like to say, I've been busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest.

I did post this and this

Brag called

and he said that with all the rain (very little out here at Rabbit Run) and the wind to follow, he was going to stay home. I think the proper context to read this is "I want to watch the Auburn Georgia game even if I do think that it's going to be ugly"

Plunker called and told me "I want to watch the Auburn Georgia game even if I do think that it's going to be ugly" which was a bit more honest

djmed, I think, is off trying to shoot bambi. Probably because he thinks the Auburn Georgia game is going to be pretty ugly.

Rye just got out of the hospital. He seems to be doing fine though he has an appointment with a lung doctor to see what went wrong.

Cuz don't hardly go without Rye. I think they have reached the senior teat stage. You know, old wrinkled and saggy. And if you see one you see the other.
Besides as Alabama fans, they think the Auburn Georgia game is going to be pretty ugly and they don't want to miss a play.

So, looking the situation over, I went to the lovely GF, matriarch of the stately Rabbit Run Manor and told her

Yep, most rabbit hunters know

to take a look around old buildings that are overgrown with weeds and brush.

Brag and I are tentatively planning a hunt for Saturday. I might have to make it a half day affair.
GF got volunteered to host the Thanksgiving Dinner this year for both sides of the family. Completely unnoticed at the time was we also are hosting her families Christmas.

I've been hanging lights. No, not Christmas lights, just room lights that GF wanted upgraded. Doing cabinets, hanging a microwave above the stove, and assorted other things to get Rabbit Run looking presentable.
I still have to hang the new mantle and a infinite list of other honey-do's, so a half day hunt may be all I can make

Worrying things

Cuz called this afternoon to tell me that Rye, our most senior member, is in the hospital with a lot of fluid in his lungs. He is undergoing tests for the next couple of days.

My prayers are with him and his family

I'm working on

getting a post about rabbit hunting with

rabbit hunting with a hawk

Plunker, send me the guy's name. Dang shame I didn't think to write it down

Don't forget

the Ridge Grove BBQ and fund raiser tomorrow, 8 November 2008.

One Dawg bowed out of the morning rabbit hunt. I hope that I didn't hurt his feelings when I tactfully suggested that Ruby stay home. She has a lot of potential, but needs a lot of work in the getting lost department. Lost being Uncle NoPass's way of saying "run deer". And with only a half day hunt......

Beagler has also sent his regrets
"I won't be able to make the hunt this weekend. It will be after dec 31st before I will get to go on a hunt due to running for hound of the year.I will be heading to Gosnell, AR this weekend but I do appreciate the invite.Look forward to getting together soon."

I haven't heard from Cuz and Rye, but they seldom make the trip anyway.

I'll be calling Dustin, Hover, djmed and others today.

No Rabbit hunt today

I've got to move some dirt piles for the in-laws.

Don't forget the annual Ridge Grove Volunteer Fire Department BBQ next Saturday.

Pictures of previous bbq

Halloween 2008

First there was Grubby and the Pumpkin Bottom Haint's

Then there was Grubby's Revenge

Followed by Hattie

Then there were the shorts, Boo and A full moon

Now, may I present

I've been working

on a GF project. It involves taking out a set of 18 inch cabinets above the stove and replacing them with a set of 12 inch ones.
Just a matter of cutting a new vent hole and some screws, right?

I’m back per GF’s instructions.

She said I had to be back by today. The reason?
It’s my birthday and she forgot last year. Yep, that’s a dang good “get out of jail free” card. I probably need to use it soon…before it gets stale

Deep breaths, Deep breaths

We didn't hunt

this weekend. It's the first weekend of archery season for deer.
I saw many a tree sitter, camo outfitted, wheeling their shopping cart to the checkout lanes loaded down with sacks of golden acorns in their conveniently camouflaged bags...the better to hide them from the game warden.

Plunker came out to Rabbit Run last Tuesday. We built Sammie P. Thumbsucker's new bachelor pad which he now shares with his two spinster aunts, Lucy and Katie. Penny looked so sad when she found out that she wouldn't be moving in with Lucy and Katie who she has been with her whole life.

And 2 and I have decided to leave in the morning for a short fishing trip to Apalachicola Bay with the "2+3".
I'll be back at the end of the week.

Souse meat

isn't our only tailgate meal.
Many's the can of sardines that have been opened.
Remember how they used to say "packed like sardines" when talking about crowded things?
Well, maybe we need

“I swear if you come back into that door one more time,

I’ll shoot you and swear I thought it was a burglar breaking in after you went rabbit hunting” GF said about six in the morning after the eleventeenth time I came back in to rummage for a missing piece of rabbit hunting equipment.

Who knew that you needed so much stuff to just attempt to kill a rabbit? The resulting threats had occurred after I had to turn the car around, shining the lights through the bedroom window and go back to get my 16ga bunny gun.
I was at the gate…again, when I remembered my boots at the back door. Thinking about GF’s last warning I decided that it had been dry and warm enough to get by with my tennys.

First day of

Alabama Rabbit Season 08-09 and I'm going out the door with a chainsaw instead of my shotgun

Got a note from djmed,

the t shirt man. As a side note, I can understand why a man would want to live in Auburn....not that I would since I'm married to the lovely GF who makes all those 20 year old coeds pall in comparison.

Anyway.

I went to the new hunting club yesterday to do a little looking around.
I saw 2 rabbits. The first was sitting in one of the club roads right by the gate. I pulled out the camera and turned it o, but everything is out of focus. It worked the last time it was out of the case, so I have no idea what happened. Hopefully, it is a common problem with a setting or something and can be fixed by the local guys,

Unfortunately, this club will be ADS(after deer season) as far as rabbit hunting goes.
The good news is I think we could hunt there every weekend in Februaryi went to the new hunting club yesterday to do a little looking around.
It is 8600 acres. The land goes over to and across the road that goes to the county lake. It's close to where we hunted before. Lots of young clear cuts and planted pines.

Sounds good. The trouble is we have SO much land to hunt in February, that most would need to take a months vacation to cover half of it.
Maybe we need to start agitating at the Alabama CAB meetings to have deer season end on 15 January or earlier and we'll let them start 1 October or maybe even in September
