The Rabbit Journal Tales

Good Morning

Today is the annual Robert E. Lee, Martin Luther King Diversity Day Rabbit Hunt.
Back later

Update 3 hunters, djmed, Brag and myself
5 rabbits
4 races
2 killed
djmed got one on a fine head shot
I, rimfire, (not that I keep up with such) got one that took a long time to find. It died in the creek and I found it by accident as we left
Brag, well, to be charitable, missed on a long shot
twice. Not that I keep up with such
djmed and buck rabbit

Your say

Boy am I glad to find you all! I am a 34 year old rabbit hunter from Indiana. I live up here on Sand Mountain. I moved into a 5 acre place in November. I acuired a 3 year old beagle in December from a couple in Ohio. Her name is Stella. She spent her first two years as a real beagle, but for the last year has been a house dog. I don't think they spoiled her. She sure is eager. I have taken her out a couple of times in the last few weeks, but we have stuck out so far. Where are the rabbits? I have not seen a single one up here. A couple of the locals have told me the population is down due to Coyotes. I was doing some research and found you all. I have not seen any rabbit sign in my area. All the trails I find are near the creek and I think they are from coons. I am not finding droppings like I am used to either. Do you all have any information on populations up here? Any local experience? Local websites or groups? Well, anyway, good to meet you all and great website!

Pleased to make your acquaintance.

I don’t have any information for you yet though I’m going to put out the word to both our small group ( I think Cuz has or had in-laws from your area) and a post on the Journal.
I have people that frequently drop by, especially this time of the year.

Coyotes, raptors and the natural population swings have a big effect. You would think that Mr. Murty’s would be over ran with them, but nary a pill did we find while a fairly wide open area like West Wind with little cover has plenty of them.

You have to have a sense of humor if you come by the Journal and we promise not to hold the unfortunate circumstances of your birth state against you.
By the way, it’s ya’ll
Heh
Come back often and share pics and stories.
