The Rabbit Journal Tales

Dog abuse?

Maybe. Maybe not.

The investigators say no and the neighbors say yes.
I have to say neighbors can be a pain if they don't understand hunting dogs. Especially when you live in the country and city people move in next door.

Your say

My sympathy to the dog owner - if they were well fed and living in reasonably clean conditions, the dogs were obviously not abused. Unfortunately, everything is a "pet" these days. You're supposed to keep them in the house, spend thousands on vet bills, toys, and clothes (yes! There are dogs with leather jackets that cost more than I'd spend for a jacket for myself!) And don't forget a suitcase to pack the dog around in, as you don't want him to get tired or make his little feet dirty.

My vet gave us hell for making our dog live outside. She's a Tibetan mastiff, and we bought her to guard the livestock and property. Her parents are also performing guardian duties at their home. As I not-so-politely pointed out to the vet, she's a working dog, and it's hard for her to guard the livestock if she's sleeping on the couch and watching Letterman on TV. She didn't like that answer, because to her, all dogs are pets and should live in the house with a leather jacket.

What is sad is that these stupid people don't realize that these dogs were bred for a purpose, and they are happiest when they are doing their job. Thank goodness that the investigators in this case seem to be reasonable and sensible. City folks should stay out of the country and leave good people and their hunting dogs alone.
