About

The Rabbit Journal originally started out as a way to amuse family and friends. But it has started to attract other rabbit hunters and to you I say "Welcome". Feel free to comment, email and suggest. Just keep it clean

The Rabbit Journal Tales

This is what I suspect

that we eventually will see, overall, in the US, even Alabama, as the deer hunters tie up most of the land for their sport and drive the cost of leases to the point of driving out people of more moderate means.
Hunting will be considered a sport of the privileged. As more people are removed from exposure to hunting, more will be willing to vote in state referendums to outlaw the use of dogs and, eventually, all blood sports.

"The large turn-out of riders and supporters was a renewed show of defiance to the Hunting Act 2004, which outlawed fox hunting, deer hunting and hare coursing with dogs in England and Wales following similar laws in Scotland."

Your say

What sparked this case of red @$$? I also have a beef with the high dollar deer hunters, who lease hunting rights in my native area and then lock it out to all other hunting. I can't blame the Land Owner when someone is willing to pay him too much just to hunt the place.

If you search for rabbit hunt alabama, you'll find one hunt. "The Great Horn Swamp Annual Rabbit Hunt". Its annually reported on the net and the report starts off, "after deer season here in the Horn Swamp we have a big rabbit hunt". I've often wanted to comment or email the guy and ask "Who runs those dogs the rest of the year round so that their good enough for you to have a successful hunt AFTER deer season, and do you let him hunt them there during deer season?" I still just might do it this year.

There you happy now you've given me the red @$$ !

I know what you mean.
It's tough getting property to run rabbits, even in the off season for deer.
I write to the Alabama DNR constantly accusing them of favoring deer hunters over small game hunters.

The real powers that we have to keep an eye on is the Alabama CAB--- Conservation Advisory Board

Some deer hunters are lobbying for the season to extend into Feb to take advantage of what they say is a late season rut.
That would kill rabbit hunting in Alabama. Cuz says if he loses any of Feb, it's not worth it to him for the upkeep of the dogs

I know what you mean, money from small game hunters, went to bring back the deer herds. It is getting tough to find a place to hunt rabbits anymore, but I won't quit,an as for these deer hunter who tie up the land with leases,I think your Uncle Nopass said it would ruin hunting.

I use the rss for comments to keep up.
My thunderbird mailbox has quit collecting them. Has anyone else (if you use it) had a problem?
