The Rabbit Journal Tales

Seen any snakes, out at Rabbit Run

Doc Caldwell, the unofficial veternarian of choice for The Rabbit Journal Pack as he examined Sally back in April.
"Nope" was my reply, "not even a grass snake."

Doc Caldwell who doesn't live to far from Rabbit Run said "you will, believe me, you will."

And I do and I did

rattles.jpg I was out counting t'posts and round posts on the fence line for an electric fence I'm going to put up sometime after Plunker and I go to the cow auction in Randolph County tomorrow when I spotted a four foot timber rattler stretched out under the pecan tree in the middle pasture. He/she was only fifty yards from the house and twentyfive yards from where the girls (and Sammie) had ran the other day.

Watch where you put your feet and hands when your out and about in God's great outdoors. There's always a serpent in the garden.
Of course, it's probably old hat for BB

Your say

Hey rimfire,I kinda lost ya when you said,"it's probably old hat for BB." I don't quite understand what you mean.LoL!I read the other day where you said you wanted me to e-mail you some pictures.I will e-mail you some as soon as my e-mail gets fixed.I have no idea what is wrong with it but it should be up and running in a week or so.I'll take pictures of my three males(Bo,Red Man,and Bob)my three females(Daisy,Little Ann,and Little Bit)and my kennels.

"old hat" means something that you are very familiar with.

I thought that since the Dothan area had a reputation for rattlesnakes, your dad's a farmer, you working in the field and having rabbit dogs that you had probably run into your share.

I let the "girls" loose Saturday morning, it was so cool out I thought they could run without having a stroke. Its odd saying the "girls" since I lost Virgil my only male, I feel like a particular unlikeable rabbit hunting party claimed him when they ran across him, but I'll probably never know for sure. Anyway they got on a rabbit in the rye field immediately and hammered for about three hours beginning at 7:30am before Molly the old pro had to give. Then the rest still hammered that poor rabbit till 12:00 when Ellie and Josie quit after getting a glance at me checking them out from up the hill. Lil'n who hadn't ran since having pups didn't give up till 5:00 that afternoon!

Oh, I got ya now.Yea there is plenty of rattle snakes and moccasins down here.We have a pond right next to our house and we have a big problem with moccasins. My dad killed a 4ft diamondback rattlesnake about three weeks ago that had 14 rattlers on it.

I know what you mean, thinwater.
I keep referring to "the girls" and having to qualify it with a "and Sammie" otherwise I might give him a complex
