The Rabbit Journal Tales

They grow up so fast

I took Lucy's training collar off today and gave her one of the extra leathers that Brag and I have. She'll wear that one till I get a new blaze orange collar with a new nameplate/phone#/email addy. The training collar was a cheap red fabric Chihuahua collar that she had finally outgrew.

She does have a few quirks. She loves to drink out of the hosepipe and enjoys being sprayed down.

Your say

About our doggies in the play-yards...

One note ... we cannot let our dogs drink from the hose, when they are outside in their playgrounds, unless the hose is flushed thoroughly every day,(who can do that?) as the hose can develope parasites that are quite harmful to the dogs. Additonally, we cannot let the sprinkler/hose water spill into the water bowls on the playgrounds.

Can you believe it, so many extra precautions just to take care of the little dogs. Giardia is a rather pesky critter that can come from water that has formed that familiar greenish tint...which, though unseen, is quite common in water hoses.

That pesky little parasite reproductive cycle is quite fast and a once a day five day regimen of a special antibiotic, is the way to interrupt the reproduction cycle.

The symptoms are diarrhea and lethargy and it is infectious dog to dog. Puppies are particularly vulnerable.

The CDC has put out some extraordinarily strict guidelines on this which are quite overboard in my book with repeated treatments going on and on (And, to think, everyone thinks i am overboard in protectiveness for animals as it is)!

Additionally ... (is this more than you wanted to know?)

Well water has sulphur which might prevent some small infections, (of a different sort) but it can also contain small amounts of some bacteria that will not harm humans, but can cause problems for pups. Our pups drink bottled water. Go ahead- LOL>

Giardia can bring down the immune system, cause fetal abortion, cause problems for immune compromised and pups.

Ok-i'm braced...Go AHEAD! LOL
