About

The Rabbit Journal originally started out as a way to amuse family and friends. But it has started to attract other rabbit hunters and to you I say "Welcome". Feel free to comment, email and suggest. Just keep it clean

The Rabbit Journal Tales

Thank goodness for the "we" system of counting rabbits.

It sure has come in handy for your host, Rimfire.

“We” got 5
Rye (1 rabbit),
Brag (1 rabbit),
Brag's cousin, "Earwig" (2 rabbits, one pre-cleaned),
The Hounds (1 rabbit)
Rimfire (you know I don’t keep up with such)
Cuz's back kept him out again today.

Yeah, even the dogs scored higher than me today. Not that I keep up with such but I missed one rabbit with three shots out of a double barrel. He got behind me and I spun around and fired two quick shots as he dove into a briar patch with the pack right behind. I walked into as I reloaded. Just as I snapped the gun shut, the rabbit having already doubled back. Shot past me going in the opposite direction I killed some more briars. My three shots were followed by two shots by Brag, and then two shots by Rye. The rabbit ran for 25 minutes before the pack caught him. Or more likely, finally died.
Rye and Maizie
Lot of rabbits and rabbit sign, but the size of the pines makes it difficult to hunt. And there is a lot more coyote sign then last year. Still, we had race after race after race today. The Girls of the Rabbit Journal Pack did their job, we just couldn’t hem the rabbits up. Or in my case, hit them.
Earwig
After the rain last night walking in the brush was like being inside a cloud. I was soaking wet in only a few minutes.
doesn't do justice to how wet the brush really was
I didn’t mind though. Walking kept me warm and there isn’t much left to the season. We have only four more hunts scheduled, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday and then it will be time to start the Rabbit Journal 06-07. All that really changes is the page title. Check the categories for specific years of hunts and pre-season exercises. Or just peruse the archives
