The Hounds
is joint owned by Brag and me, Rimfire.
Along with Cuz and Rye, we four make up
The rules of ownership for the Rabbit Journal pack are really simple-- They are my dogs when they are behaving and doing good. They are Brag’s dogs when they run trash or are noisy in the pen. The Pack is currently at five dogs. We might add one in a year or so. But for now, it’s Dixie’s
ears hang to the front and she has a distinctive jagged white mark up her rear flanks.
Lucy
The former baby of the pack
Still, she seems to have a good nose. She got on her first rabbit track by herself at the age of 12 weeks.
She followed two of the other dogs on a deer track a few months ago. She is wearing one of the collars now and she has had her yingyang knocked in the dirt. I’m just waiting to see if the lesson needs repeating.
This year she still has a little taste for deer and has developed a habit of hunting on her own till the other dogs open up. Then she sounds off like she is on a hot track till she catches up. That causes some confusion among the other members of the pack.
Kate
Was Uncle NoPass’s last puppy. He went downhill at the end of the 03-04 season and she stayed in the pen with Lacey until my aunt could no longer take care of them and gave Kate to me and Lacey to Cuz. Brag and I tried to exercise them on the spring exercises at the Crapps old place, but Uncle NoPass got it in his head that someone was trying to steal the two best rabbit dogs in the county, Why everybody says so. Won’t run nothing but a rabbit.”
Yeah, right, but you go along with what a Good man says.
Kate has came around some. A howler in the pen at any passing sirens, except whe she has the collar on. She seems to have decided not to run deer anymore, that also a product of the collar. The only habits is she thinks she should hunt only half a day and still will shortcut the pack.
Mystery
Mystery is a found dog. She turned up on a Chambers County hunt on Plunkers land. A 11 incher, she has turned out to be a fine dog. Bowlegged with a husky strained voice reminiscent of a three pack a day smoker, she hunts hard and is "all rabbit, all the time"
Suzie Q is a cull one eyed dog that Brag and I bought during the summer of 07. I thought she was a fine dog, but it seems that she needs a little one on one time with the collar. Yep, she ran a deer
Cuz’s Pack
Judy and the Whoevers
Update Judy passed on 3 March 2007
Judy
The Grand Dame of the two packs.
Lady
Likes to run the deer….if she can talk another dog into going with her. If not, she’s back in a few minutes
Precious
Jeeze, what a name to stand in the middle of the woods yelling “here precious here here” Yeah that does the image good. On the heavy side, sort of like your better half’s best friend….when your feeling charitable. She has a bell like quality to her voice and seems to have a decent nose.
Lacey
Well, I’m not sure about Lacey yet. She’s loud in the pen. Thankfully Cuz’s pen. She seems to be coming along though.
