Ain’t this fun, boss?

I put Abbie on two rabbits, but she showed little interest in the smell though she did put her head down and followed the trail. Just no enthusiasm. The first rabbit I put her on was one I spotted on the first run, a really long race of a hour and a half. It was near where we saw so many rabbit’s a few weeks ago. This time as Abbie smelled along the trail, she was very rudely shouldered out of the way as her new Aunties swept by hot on the trail. Abbie just stood there watching and listening to the older dogs.
The second rabbit was past the cabin on a powerline. As I listened to the older dogs run, I realized it would cross near the third pole down, same as always.

Already, I can tell that she is finding it boring to hang out at my feet. She has started venturing out some. Even tagging along with the older dogs, though she keeps up with where I’m at. That to will end.
Top dog today? Julie though Kate, Dixie and Lucy were tied for a strong second. Lucy’s biggest problem today was me getting her back to go home and see the Auburn game. She refused to give up that last rabbit.
Oh by the way, War Eagle.

I fired two shots out of my pocket rocket near Abbie. The pocket rocket is a .22 North American Arms that folds into a hard holster. Abbie is the 12 week old newest member of the Rabbit Journal pack. For three weeks I’ve fired shots near her. The last two times she was in the box with the other dogs that hardly react to the noise.
The first shot brought her back down the trail, I suppose to make sure I was ok. The second shot drew even less response though Lucy gave a little jump, no doubt remembering my notoriously poor aim last year. I’ll continue firing the odd shot, just not to close. I don’t want to spook her
The first and the last race were the longest with the other two being 15 minutes or so. At one point Lucy was running “something” by herself in a thick bottom while Dixie, Kate and Julie ran the original rabbit who made at least two circles before Lucy rejoined the pack for another circuit. I can’t wait till I get a fresh deer leg or two. Lucy is in for a rude jolt the first time she follows the scent in the back yard.
Haven’t seen many sulphur’s migrating yet. Fewer other butterfly’s than normal to.
Oh, and don’t forget to check the tightness of the collars, especially on a growing puppy. Abbie is sporting Lucy’s Chihuahua collar from when she was a puppy. Maizie’s blaze orange collar with my telephone number and email address on a brass plate is waiting on her to grow to the point where she can hold her head up while wearing it
