Look out Rye! He’s Charging.
But I did have to jerk my leg out of the path of the onrushing rabbit and in the process tumble backwards into some blackberry briars. Seeing the trail now completely blocked by the thrashing human, the rabbit turned and raced around a impenetrable wood pile straight into Rye who was doubled over slapping his knees. Seeing the rabbit bearing down, Rye did a quick three step backwards to get out of the charging bunny’s way where he stepped onto the edge of the horseshoe pit. Rye hung there for a moment, arms wind milling. Later, he told me, all he could think of was the iron stake and the position he was falling. Personally, I told him, I thought the conversation in the emergency room would be interesting. “Get the extra large vice grips” But Rye didn't get a ringer.
Sugar, crowded by Maizie and Judy in full cry, cast me a quizzical look as she passed. When they raced around the brush pile, the sight of the second human rolling on the ground gave them second thoughts about what they were chasing. And, did they really want to catch it. The pack milled around before they began looping in circles, trying to pick up the lost scent.
All totaled, the race was a forty five minute symphony preformed by five little ladies, Judy, Julie, Dixie, Sugar and “groan“ Maizie. See, Maizie doesn’t arrrp, she barks. She sounds like a yard dog.
Bark.
Bark.
Bark, bark.
Bark
Once again it was Maizie and Sugar who impressed me. I’ve complained, I mean, talked about Sugar often, but Maizie generally only gets a mention in passing. These last two races, Maizie has really shone.
Brag and I plan to try to run them again on Saturday.
Rating the dog’s today
Judy ran well but was give out after that one race. She straightened out a missed turn two times I know of
Sugar was enthusiastic and kept her nose to the ground. She also is working the trails well and tolerates Rye.
Maizie, poor clunky tone deaf Maizie, sounded like a hog as she snorted her way past. Loud and enthusiastic, she was sometimes lead dog.
Julie and Dixie, mainly added backup. They seemed flighty and ran about some with their head up. If a deer had popped up in front of them, they would have been gone.
